Gifts of Sound for You

Happy holiday times may be revisited over certain traditional dishes of food, by driving past a crowded Christmas tree lot, or even just from the sound of the bell in the hand of the Salvation Army volunteer standing out in the chilly night air. But the best imagery still comes from the music of the season. From Silent Night and Silver Bells to Rudolph and Frosty, the music of Christmas sets the holiday into motion as well as links us to all of those seasons past that helped form our best memories of family and friends.

This year, we’d like to share a very special set of preset registrations that will bring your carols to life easily and beautifully.

These downloadable settings were designed for the song Oh Come All Ye Faithful but the settings will work with any Christmas carol that does not use a rhythm style. Songs such as Hark the Herald Angels Sing, We Three Kings, Joy To The World and The First Noel are just a few examples.

There are 8 presets settings for the song. The first three presets, (1,2 & 3) are for the first verse of your song. Preset 1 is simply a bell and a chord sound in the left hand. Advancing to preset 2 brings in some soft choir voices in traditional harmony and preset 3 will add in even more harmonized vocals.

Second verse. Presets 4 – 8. Here come the BIG SOUNDS! The smart way to line up presets for a song is to get bigger and fuller as you advance. When you begin your song a second time, preset 4 will do two things. It will engage more sounds on both keyboards and it will do a ½ step key change upward to refresh the song. After starting with preset 4, you can advance your presets one by one, as each grows more magnificent. Note: Preset 4 must be used exclusively to begin the second verse because making key changes in mid-verse will sound discordant. Presets 5, 6, 7, & 8 are in the same key as preset 4. Each gets fuller than the previous one.

Download the set of presets that fits your level of play. These presets are designed to work on all current Roland Atelier organs from the AT75 thru the AT900 Artist Editions. American Classic owners and S series owners can also try these settings in their organs.

BASIC is for one finger chord players.

INTERMEDIATE is for players who use full chords in their left hand but who do not play their own pedals yet.

ADVANCED is for players who play full left hand chords and who also play their own pedals.

NOTE: Traditional harmony is featured on the upper manual so it’s best to play a single note melody at all times while letting the organ provide the harmonic mixture.

Merry Christmas!
