Roland AtelierLandmark Organ Sound, Performance, and Luxury
by Rick Morales
Richard at his Roland AT-900.
In 1964, Richard's father purchased an Everett organ. That was the beginning of his love affair with the “King of Instruments.” Eventually they upgraded to a Hammond E-100, and then to a Hammond H-111. During this time he took some lessons, but mostly played by ear. Then college, career, and a family of his own took precedence and the organ fell off the list of priorities.
In the 1980s, Richard's longing to play music lead him to start experimenting with synthesizers. While this helped fill the void, he still felt something was missing in his music. It wasn't until 2006 when his wife, Christine, expressed an interest in learning to play the piano that they decided to take a trip to The Piano & Organ Center in Clay, NY. Although he had no plans to take organ lessons at this time, Christine thought it would be fun to take lessons together. She would take lessons on the piano, and Richard on the organ. This is where he met his teacher, Bob Carbone. Richard recalls, “Through patience and a love of teaching, Bob was able to bring out every ounce of ability in me. He took me out of my comfort zone and brought me to a level of playing I had only dreamed of.”
Richard utilizing one of his many other talents: Flying.
Since 2006, the Guilds have owned a Roland KR-105 piano for Christine, a Roland AT-90S, and ultimately a Roland AT-900 Artist Edition. Richard proudly shares, “Roland products not only sound great they inspire anyone who plays them.”
“Through the training, encouragement from the staff, and the truly great workshops sponsored by Roland and The Piano & Organ Center, I was able to go from struggling to play one song to become the National Finals Winner in the Roland Atelier Organ Fest (Advanced Hobbyist) for 2010. This is an experience that will remain with me for the rest of my life.”
Congratulations to Richard on the big win! We love hearing your music, and we're thrilled that you've found your musical voice in the Roland Atelier.
