Throughout much of her married life Zena is proud to have been a stay-at-home mother, devoted to raising her four children which, incidentally, were all born within a six year period. Talk about a challenge!
But Zena is always up for a challenge. As an empty nester Zena took up the game of golf and fine tuned her skills to become Club Champion and hold the ladies course record for the next ten years.
Bitten by the travel bug, Zena went to work for a local travel agency where her biggest joy was “working with the people on the other side of the desk”. During this time she developed a passion for cruising, which she still enjoys today. She ultimately became a partner in the agency, but her travel career was cut short when her husband fell ill and she needed to stay home as a care giver. The passing of her husband brought Zena to a new chapter in her life.
She had always wanted to play the organ, so she was quick to investigate when she saw an ad for group organ lessons at Desi’s Music Center in Apple Valley, CA.
She went to the local dealer for her first lesson and was immediately hooked! “I was amazed how much music I remembered from my childhood!” Though she had lived in Apple Valley since 1964, Zena was amazed by the new doors of friendship that were opened through the class program. “After the loss of a spouse, lots of people look to conventional support groups. Mine was Desi’s Music Center!”
It’s now been 11 years since Zena first walked into her local Roland dealer, and she has been the owner of 8 great organs. She continues to set goals for herself and, when the latest challenge was met, she rewarded herself with a shiny new AT-800! Says Zena, “I have not only seen what music has done for me, but what music has done for so many others.”
