From the onset of this project, we were excited about sponsoring a grass roots movement that would actually encourage students, hobbyists and professionals to challenge their playing skills, share their music with others, and learn to use the wonderful features of the new “Next Generation” Atelier.
The results were far beyond our expectations. In total, there were 221 Atelier Organ Fest participants from select dealers across the nation.
Participant playing levels were from 4 months of lessons to more than 50 years of playing. Most had never performed in front of an audience prior to this event and were a bit nervous, but quite determined to share their music. Each participant expressed great joy and satisfaction in learning their performance piece and being part of the Atelier Fest.
The judging format was much like the TV show “American Idol”. (but without the negative scowling of Simon Cowell) While the judges continued to take notes in order to tally the final scores, they spoke to each participant immediately after they finished playing and gave positive praise and encouragement as well as helpful suggestions for improvement. This was very popular with the audience and lots of fun during the event.
The dealers did a superb job of enrolling and supporting the participants and teachers prior to their local fest. Everyone in the store was involved, encouraged the players during practice time and even helping with the arrangements.
There were many wonderful stories of how the Atelier Organ Fest affected the player’s daily lives.
Winners from the local events will perform in Orlando, Florida next February…then regional winners will move on to the finals in Los Angeles in March. Of course, all this “globetrotting” is courtesy of Roland for the winners!
Next year the Atelier Organ Fest will be open to all dealers across the nation. We hope you will be a part of the local competition in your area!
