Roland AtelierLandmark Organ Sound, Performance, and Luxury
by Rosemary Bailey
On April 29, 2006 Roland artist Rosemary Bailey joined some of the most influential organ artists from around the country to perform at “From Stage To Screen” — the 10th Anniversary celebratory pops concert at the famous Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet Illinois. That night Bailey treated the sell-out crowd to the beautiful sounds of Roland's own AT-90 American Classic. This marks the first time the historic landmark has ever featured a Roland organ on its world famous stage that is home to the traditional Barton Theatre Pipe Organ.
“The show is celebrating its eleventh year,” said producer Steve LaManna. “In years past, we had used Allen and Walker organs, but this year we wanted something completely different, particularly since we would be using the keyboards to accompany every orchestra piece in the show. The Roland AT-90 American Classic was a perfect solution.”
The historic Rialto Theatre is known for being one of the most beautiful theatres in the nation. Inspired by reflects Greek, Roman and Byzantine architecture, the theatre opened in 1926 as a Palace for the People. Today it continues to draw thousands of visitors each year who wish to catch a glimpse of the glitz and glamour of yesteryear — a perfect setting to show off the versatile and dynamic Roland instruments.
“We wanted an instrument that had total versatility to enhance the orchestra with abilities beyond the traditional theatre organ, while still being able to please a “Pops Concert” style audience, which is what sells out the theatre each year. We needed to have something that the audience would find unique. And, the Atelier, with its many voices, filled the bill,” said LaManna.
“It was a perfect blend of blend pipes, keys, piano. We had a Roland Digital Grand onstage as well! The audience loved it! And, they loved Rosemary! In the second half of the show, they were howling approval in the theatre … (some may have thrown room keys).”
